At the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Huawei introduced the newest member that joins the Mate line of devices. The new smartphone is the Huawei Mate 8, featuring high-end specs, offering high speeds, lots of storage and an expanded screen size of 6.0-inch. The newcomer member of Android Chinese phones takes on the challenge of overtaking Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 (and their updated versions too).

Huawei Mate 8 features and specifications

The Mate 8 phablet comes sporting a 6.0-inch FHD display (1920 x 1080 p) with 95% color saturation and compared to its predecessors features a larger screen-to-body ratio of 85%. Topped by a metallic unibody design with 2.5D diamond curved cut glass, it also comes with an improved fingerprint sensor (located at the back side of the phone, below the main camera).

The phablet is launched as the world’s first smartphone to feature Sony’s newest 16MP IMX298 camera with 1/2.8-inch sensor size, f/2.0 aperture lens, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), BSI, dual-tone flash, autofocus, four times digital zoom, and lets you take time-lapse videos. The new camera is capable of shooting images at a maximum resolution of 4608 x 3456 pixels. While for the selfie-addicts, the phone comes housing an 8MP unit with f/2.4 aperture and takes selfies at 3264 x 2448 pixels.

Besides being the first to house the new Sony’s camera, the Mate 8 is also the first smartphone in the world to run the brand-new 64-bit Kirin 950 chipset with four Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and four Cortex-A52 cores clocked at 1.8GHz, backed by the i5 co-processor, 4GB of RAM (the Huawei Mate 8 comes in two major models, the HUAWEI NXT-L29 model coming in 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and the 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage models and the HUAWEI NXT-L09 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage, the memory is expandable for all models). The whole set of specs is highlighted by the Android Marshmallow 6.0 which comes pre-installed on the device.

The Mate 8 comes supporting two SIM cards (both nano), 4G LTE network with download speed up to 300 Mbit/s, 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/a, Bluetooth 4.2, high-speed USB, NFC, GPS, Glonass, BDS, and a package of sensors like proximity, gyroscope, hall sensor, barometer and many more.

The incredible cocktail of specs will have no worth if there’s enough energy to power it up. To avoid any battery lack, Huawei has added a massive 4,000 mAh battery to the Mate 8, a large battery unit which when combined with the company’s SmartPower technology keeps the phone one for over than two days even for the worst of gamers.

Huawei Mate 8 pricing and availability

Huawei announced that the Mate 8 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage would cost somewhere near 599 euros, while the 4GB of RAM plus 64GB storage to cost at 699 euros. But recently the Huawei Mate 8 becomes available in the U.S by debuting at Amazon.
