Mobile phone manufacturers race each another on improving the technology that powers their devices. Today we have the latest technology in mobile processing, the fastest network support on all types of smartphones, systematic upgrades to the latest operating systems, security additions such as fingerprint recognition reaching sub $100 budget phones, and significant improvements regarding photography features.
One of the most important upgrades that allowed smartphones to get close to sharing a similar experience to DSLR cameras is the implementation of dual camera technology. The dual lens camera feature on smartphones is not quite new, it was experimented by the LG with the Optimus 3D phone back in 2011 back when 3D was a thing. During the same year, HTC also brought the same feature with the HTC Evo 3D phone. 6 years ago, the implemented technology was aimed at allowing phones to shoot 3D images.
The idea of creating 3D photos with a dual-lens camera on a mobile device wasn’t adopted globally. But HTC didn’t give up and in 2014 released the HTC One M8. The One M8 brought the dual camera support on smartphones to a next level, the idea of having a secondary camera that measures depth information and allows the user to manipulate the photography and switch focus by a tap with ease was something worthy. But still, the cameras featured on the M8 were quite modest, and beside its premium metal body design you couldn’t ask for more from the One M8.
HTC One M8 fantastic for giving a burst to the adaptation of dual lens camera smartphones, and little to what the phone could perform with its photography upgrade. Because of that now we have dual-camera phones that can record regarding videos in 4K resolution, shoot professional photos at a higher resolution than 4K (larger than 4000 x 2000 pixels).
The good news for those that are willing to make theirs a dual camera phone is that this technology touches devices of different price range. The cheapest dual camera phone is priced at $250, that is a couple of times cheaper than the most expensive ones. If you want to know which phones have this photography upgrade, here is the listing of all dual camera smartphones you can purchase.
