Umi has recently changed its name from UMI to UMiDIGI. The Chinese phone maker will be introducing on January 4 the Umi Z and Umidigi Z Pro notchless phones, its most expensive smartphones made by far on January 4, three days from now. However, Umi’s flagship will be tagging the price of $330 and with its hi-end features will be a flagship killer.
On January 4, Umi will be announcing its flagships in two different brandings, the single-camera version will be bearing the old branding and be called Umi Z while the dual-camera version will be bearing the new branding and be called Umidigi Z Pro. Umi is copying Lenovo’s subbrand Zuk with the launch of Umi Z and Umidigi Z Pro, Lenovo’s Zuk Z2 and its versions went places for bringing top-notch specs on a sub $300 device. Umi’s dual-lens Z Pro version has been criticized for being an expensive version of the Xiaomi Redmi Pro.
Umi Z sports a metallic unibody design with round edges and curved sides on the back with a 5.5-inch 2.5D touchscreen display featuring a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Umi Z and its dual-lens Umidigi Z Pro will be running the MediaTek Helio X27 processor with ten Cortex-A72 CPU cores clocked at 2.6GHz. The Umidigi Z Pro is actually the first MediaTek-powered flagship smartphone featuring a dual-camera setup. Both versions will be having 4GB of RAM with up to 64GB of storage (Umi Z will have 32GB storage while Umidigi Z Pro 64GB) with microSD support up to 256GB and will be running Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS while being scheduled for an Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade in the near future.
Umi Z will be sporting the same 13MP phase detection autofocus Samsung S5K3L8 camera on both sides with a laser autofocus on the rear and Quad-LED flash that shoot photos at a maximum resolution of 4208 x 3120 pixels and record videos at 4K resolution. Despite Umi Z’s advanced photography features, the Umidigi Z Pro will much better in photography pack-up. The latter will be sporting two 13MP Sony IMX258 CMOS camera sensors where each of them can support 4K video recording at 30 frames per second, the union of these two 4K cameras will skyrocket Umi’s flagship photography features. While on the front will be another 13MP phase detection camera, probably the same as those on the rear.
In terms of connectivity, Umi Z and Umidigi Z Pro will not be lacking much. They both will support two SIM cards, 4G LTE network, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB Type-C, and a fingerprint sensor mounted on the tiny and elegant front-facing physical Home button.
Umi Z and Umidigi Z Pro will be in Grey and Gold colors and will be powered by a 3,780 mAh battery. Umi Z is already listed on the company’s website while the dual-camera version named Umidigi Z Pro will be introduced on January 4. Actually, the company will be announcing both phones at the same event, even though the Umi Z is already made public and isn’t much to be revealed for the other version either.
