Google has outed the HTC-made Google Pixel and Pixel XL top-rated Android phones. Google Pixel branding is not newly used by Google, the Pixel naming was used in several hardware products made by Google, but this time, the Pixel branding substitutes Nexus. Google’s new flagship phones are powered by Snapdragon 821 SoC, feature a 4K rear camera, and are the first phones launching with a built-in Google Assistant. Google wasted little time on releasing both of the phones for purchases, allowing everyone to pre-order the Google Pixel for the starting price of $649. The handsets are currently available for pre-orders in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, and Australia.
Pixel phones by Google come sporting a metal aluminum unibody design where the standard Google Pixel houses a 5.0-inch FHD AMOLED touchscreen display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution (441 PPI) while the Pixel XL boasts a 5.5-inch quad-HD AMOLED screen with a resolution 2560 x 1440 pixels (534 PPI). Both phones support durability features thanks to Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
Google claims that Pixel phone features the best camera found on a mobile device. While this is undoubtedly debatable with most chances to be untrue, Google’s new phones sport a 12.3MP phase detection autofocus camera with a large f/2.0 aperture lens, big 1.5 micron pixels for capturing more light, laser detection autofocus, and LED flash that records 4K videos at 30fps. The selfie camera is an 8MP unit also with large 1.4-micron pixels and f/2.0 aperture for shooting videos at 1080p.
Where Pixel phone cannot be criticized is performance, the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 821 with four Kryo CPU cores and Adreno 530 GPU guarantee the speed. In the terms of memory, Google Pixel phones will come powered by 4GB of RAM and in 32GB and 128GB of storage models. Above those, there’s the Android 7.1 Nougat update pre-loaded out of the box.
In the terms of connectivity, Google’s Pixel supports 4G LTE network, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, and a fingerprint sensor. It also comes pre-loaded with a built-in Google Assistant bringing “Okay Google” to a next level, and the pre-installed Google Duo and Google Allo for video calling and texting your friends regardless of which OS their mobile phone might be running.
Google Pixel gets powered by a 2,770 mAh battery while the Google Pixel XL has a larger battery with a capacity of 3,450 mAh. Both phones support Quick Charge technology which enables up to 7 hours of use with just 15 minutes of charging time. Pixel phones by Google will be available in three colors, Silver, Black and the US-only Edition Blue.
